The last gas planet of the solar system and the second of the three transcendental planets, Neptune is related in influence to Venus and Moon and is considered the higher octave of Venus.

So, just as Moon represent personal unconscious, Neptune represent collective unconscious. As Moon represents basic intuition, Neptune signifies visions, clairvoyance and mediums. Likewise, as Venus symbolize beauty and love, Neptune symbolize the quest for perfect, unattainable beauty and ideal, divine, unattainable love.

As it represents the unexplored parts of the earth, the deepest depths of the sea and the farthest, unseen parts of the universe, Neptune symbolize all that is unknown, invisible, undefined, elusive, mysterious which can only be imagined, hypothesized or intuitively perceived.

Therefore, Neptune is essentially a planet that symbolizes mysteries, secrets, enigmas, fantasies but also confusions, illusions, deceptions, everything that seems inexplicable, miraculous, magical.

While under the influence of Uranus we rebel, protest, tear down the old and constantly build the new and dream that in some future we will build a paradise on earth, under the influence of Neptune we want to retreat and escape from the noise and bustle of this world, to isolate ourselves and meditate, to achieve transcendence or some kind of nirvana.

As it is the antithesis of Mercury, its influence is not easy to explain in a rational, logical way because it affects more on an emotional, unconscious level, and as such is irrational and nebulous. That is why it has the reputation of “the planet of lies and deception”. As such, Neptune is essentially a malefic, as the aspirations and needs it symbolizes have little to do with reality.

In a positive context, it gives sensitivity, visions, imagination and inspirations that can be of great benefit to artists and spiritually minded people.

In the negative, under his charms people easily turn to vice, lies, dependency and madness from which there is often no return. It often creates an intense need to feel and reach something ideal and perfect, as a result of which it easily leads to delusions and disappointments.

In any given chart, the position in the sign less important, the position in the house and the aspects it makes with personal planets are much more important. It shows who and what we tend to idealize, in what way and to what extent we are potentially inspired and creative, as well as where we make mistakes and where we are prone to self-delusion, as well as who is prone to mislead and deceive us.
